When I found your book at Costco
Hello Pat: I am a girl from everywhere east coast and west coast, who married a wonderful military man who has finally settled with her kids in San Diego, Eastlake to be specific. Ahhh. I am a newish organic veggie gardener, having gardened in the past in Virginia in 1990, Oregon from 1997-2000 and now in San Diego from 2008 to present.
I had looked in bookstores last year and online for a book like I have from my time in Oregon (with Northwestern tidbits) but could not find any. Sunset was TOO overwhelming. Others (which I bought) were nicely written and styled but lacked warmth.
Then, there I was at Costco, where I never go and always send my husband. I do not buy books much, but wandered over and gasped when I saw the title of your book. I grabbed one, opened it up and read. There it was, all the secrets of my new world. Written in a voice that is seasoned, smart and maternal. I was overwhelmed with glee, joy and relief. I had a plan, a guide in my quest to settle and grow my life and yard.
I finally stopped reading and looked up and for a moment forgot completely where I was. Then I grabbed my book and set off on my new and improved journey.
Thank you. Thank you for writing all this out for all of us, and thank your late hubby for saying it needed to be so. I am sure that I am only one of many in your fan club, perhaps its newest member. But no one could have been looking more for exactly what you designed.
I will come and hear you and bring my book for you to sign one time this year.

Thank you for your wonderful letter of appreciation and for mentioning my late husband, Lou. It meant so much to me to hear how you understood the book and quickly caught onto its scope. I’m as thrilled to hear how my new organic book is helping you as you were to find it. I deeply appreciate the time you took to write me such a thoughtful letter.
I will look forward to meeting you and signing your book when you come to one of my talks sometime. I will be speaking one week from tomorrow in Balboa Park. It should be fun and interesting, but unfortunately not on vegetable gardening. (See events lineup.) I will also be appearing on Channel 6 next Tuesday on San Diego Live in the 9:00 am to 10:00 am time slot.
