Fruit Trees

Question from Elizabeth:
What book should I buy that goes into veggie gardening as well as fruit trees. I am not sure which one of your books I should purchase.

Answer from Pat:
If you live in California and do not have any of my books the one to purchase is “Pat Welsh’s Southern California Organic Gardening: Month-by-Month”. http://www.amazon.com/Welshs-Southern-California-Organic-Gardening/dp/0811868796. (Thank you for asking!) This book will remind you what to do for vegetables and fruit trees every month. It covers all the most basic vegetables in detail and all the most basic care of fruit trees. Everything you need is in it except exact descriptions of each kind of pruning for fruit trees. It tells the basics, but I always recommend gardeners invest in a good pruning manual as well. A Sunset paperback pruning manual is fine, but it’s good to use two manuals. Make sure they are for the west. If you can find a copy of R. Sanford Martin’s “How to Prune Fruit Trees” http://www.amazon.com/Prune-Fruit-Trees-Sanford-Martin/dp/B000JVY8U8it’s a good one. I relied on this guide for years.
