Drought To Deluge

From Dave:

A thank you note for writing a succinct description of the California drought to deluge precipitation environment in one of your early books I found in my mother’s gardening library. As the drought continued and my neighbors replaced their yards with AstroTurf, gravel and desert plants, we held the course.   Implemented grey water lines from shower and laundry to the avocados and citrus, laid in 6 to 12 inches of alfalfa mulch and let the lawn decline to just surviving.

From Pat:

I distinctly remember writing about how in the 19th century when everyone was complaining during a several-year drought, the worst one recorded until that time, a wise old American Indian said, “It’s going to rain so much everyone will wish it would stop!”
